Living Confidently in the NDIS Era

ACARES attended the South West Disability Expo held over two days (Friday 8th and Saturday 9th December) at the Whitlam Leisure Centre. Our National Business Development Manager Suzie Newall, along with our Community Development Executive Chester Baluyot, were provided with a platform to connect with participants from the South West Sydney region.

With only a week under his belt Chester, our newest addition to the ACARES family, hit the ground running. Both Chester and Suzie were happy discussing all things ACARES and the NDIS with those in attendance, ranging from people with disabilities to government agencies and other service providers. The first of its kind in the region, the expo featured over 120 exhibitors showcasing the latest products, services, technology, aids & equipment.

The NDIS changes the landscape of disability services in Australia. Through the scheme, there will be a new world of possibilities for people with a disability. The South West Disability Expo provided a crucial opportunity for individuals in receipt of care, or soon to be in receipt of care, to gain greater control over their lives. Exhibitors shared information about services available to those eligible for funding under the NDIS, in addition to their families and carers. The free event further enabled consumers, providers and businesses to connect and build local networks with a strong community focus.

Over the two day event there were a variety of demonstrations and speakers from the NDIS, government and non-government bodies. In addition, there were performances and entertainment for the kids (a definite bonus on any day of the week).

As ACARES services continue to grow in NSW through compassion, commitment and culture, it is events such as these which allow our team to meet those participating in the NDIS. Both Chester and Suzie enjoyed attending the expo and shedding some light on how ACARES can help NDIS participants achieve the best outcomes now and into the future.
